A refreshing romantic comedy that sets the scene for the immortal feud between sense and sensib...。故事发生在十九世纪中叶，有一位对主人忠心耿耿的黑奴，人们都称他为汤姆叔叔（约翰·奇兹米勒 John Kitzmiller 饰）。汤姆叔叔的主人投资失败濒临破产，无奈之下只能将包括汤姆叔叔在内的数十名奴隶卖给了奴隶贩子里格利，一行人跟着里格利浩浩荡荡的向南方出发。
在途中，汤姆叔叔结识了善良的女孩伊万杰琳，女孩恳求父亲圣克莱尔买下汤姆叔叔。然而，由于圣克莱尔发起了奴隶解放运动而遭到了很多奴隶主的痛恨，最终这位善良的男人死在了暗杀之下。就这样，汤姆叔叔再次成为了里格利的俘虏。汤姆叔叔十分同情女奴卡茜悲惨的身世，为了救她而遭遇了车祸，身受重伤奄奄一息的汤姆叔叔终于明白，没有人能够拯救他们，除了他们自己。。
