童家老太爷十八年前为孙子天赐与门当户对的岳家定下娃娃亲。之后，童、岳两家失散多年。终于有一天，童夫人打听到了岳家的下落，遂上门提亲，这时的岳家已破落。岳家小姐弯弯对天赐一见钟情，而天赐却爱着另一个女孩安宁。善良的弯弯为了成全天赐，决定放他俩私奔。然而峰回路转，天赐最终没有和安宁走到一起。一年后，已经是一名军人的天赐回来了，他娶了弯弯作妻子。。Back Stage is a 1919 comedy, one of the last films that Buster Keaton would appear with Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle before they went their separate ways, Keaton would get his own studio, and Arbuckle got into feature length films.
