日本科学技术大学教授上田次郎（阿部宽饰）是一位物理学家，因为出版了《滚过来，超常现象》系列丛书而被别人称作“滚过来”教授。这些书描述了他破解诸多自称超能力者的骗局的故事。其实，真正破解这些圈套的是一位落魄的魔术师。她叫山田奈绪子（仲间由纪恵饰），是已故日本第一魔术师山田刚三的女儿。二人经常被卷入不可思议的神秘事件，并因此成为了伙伴。
