本片乃是编导对一起发生在70年代早期乌拉圭的真实事件的个人诠释。一个美国AID官员（他们通常的任务是作为先遣部队前往目标国家训练当地警察人员如何镇压暴乱）遭当地游击队绑架并谋杀。经过调查发现，他原来是美国政府干涉当地内政的特派人员，经游击队严刑逼供仍不吐实，于是加以杀害，在这条主线之外，影片也描写了左翼游击队和乌拉圭政府的对抗。。女主Pitawan出生贫困被母亲卖个上流社会富婆，但是对她又不好，于是她就经常勾搭男人，想让人爱她，后来看上了男主，为了得到男主不惜手段，从他的未婚妻手上抢走他，后来她明白金钱什么的都只是假象，不是真正的幸福，只有真爱才能幸福。。Just over 40 years ago, marriage in China was arranged by the state.
